Attention those traveling without ticket in the train! Only 3 TC recovered 3 crores

New Delhi. If you unknowingly travel without a ticket by train, then this mistake may cost you dearly, because the Railways has been continuously showing strictness on passengers without tickets. This can be gauged from the fact that in the last one year only 3 ticket checking staff of the country have recovered a fine of 1-1 crore. This is only the amount recovered from unauthorized passengers between 1 April 2022 to 16 March 2023 by three ticket checking staff of Chennai Railway Division.

According to a railway press release, Deputy Chief Ticket Inspector S Nand Kumar collected Rs 1.55 crore by imposing fines in 27,787 cases of traveling without proper tickets and without booked luggage. This is one of the highest earnings of any ticket checking staff till date.

Female TC charged maximum fine

Chief ticket inspector Roseline Arokia Mary also achieved a milestone by collecting Rs 1.03 crore in penalties, making her the highest-paid female ticket-checking employee in the Indian Railways.

Besides this, Senior Ticket Examiner Sakthivel collected Rs 1.10 crore as fine. In a statement, the Railways appreciated the staff and appealed to passengers to travel with proper tickets.

Explain that according to the Railway Act, it is illegal to travel in a train without a ticket or without a proper ticket, along with rules related to carrying luggage during the journey have also been made. If a passenger breaks these rules, he can be fined or jailed or both.
According to section 138 of the Railway Act, traveling in a train without sufficient ticket or pass is punishable with fine. Under this, for the distance traveled by the passenger or the station from where the train started, the normal single fare and additional fee i.e. ₹ 250/- or equal to the fare, whichever is higher, is payable as fine.

At the same time, under Section 137 of the Railway Act, traveling in a wrong way can lead to 6 months in jail, a fine of Rs 1000 or both.
